It’s safe to say that many current students have heard or used such popular resources as Bartleby Learn, Write, and Tutor presented on the bartleby.com website. But what is Bartleby.com Research – a much less known section of Bartleby’s universe? In a nutshell, it’s a database of sample papers meant for drawing inspiration or using as writing models to follow. In this outright Bartleby review, we’re going to figure how helpful Bartleby Research really is. What perks can it offer? Are there any pitfalls to look out for? Find the answers below.
Everyone Knows Bartleby Learn, Bartleby Write, Bartleby Tutors. But What About Bartleby Research?
Whether students need help with grammar and formatting, look for a textbook or literary classic, or got a question to ask, Bartleby homework solutions may come in handy. While discussions “Bartleby vs Chegg” still roil on sites like Reddit, many users stick to the former one in the memory of the good old days when the site served mainly as an open-access library.
Today, the section with samples is called Bartleby Research, and just a few people are aware of it simply because it is not actually promoted as opposed to Learn, Write or Tutor sections. The current (in)significance of Bartleby Research is vividly showcased by its placement: you have to scroll down all the way through the homepage page to find the link to it.
Overall, Bartleby Research is a paid online database of student essay samples that can be used as a source of writing ideas and examples (but not copied to avoid plagiarism!). Although not new, the idea is reasonable and might attract many users if not for a slight problem…
Is Bartleby Free?
It is apparent that the Bartleby Research database is far from perfect. Even so, many students could put up with it – if they could create and use a Bartleby free account. Unfortunately, this isn’t an option. Just like other bartleby.com services, full access to Bartleby Research samples is possible only with the paid subscription – which isn’t an option for everybody.
The full version of any sample you select will remain hidden, with the “Get Access” button showing on top. Having pressed the button, you will be redirected to another page and required to login or sign up and select a paid plan.
To evaluate the quality of writing without any restrictions, I paid $7 for the weekly trial subscription. Just as one can expect from a service that belongs to a reputable company (Bartleby is part of the Barnes & Noble organization), samples mostly were of high quality and didn’t have any problems with logical structuring and formatting. If you consider the question “Is Bartleby worth it?” you’d need to include the high subscription price and rather limited selection of samples into the equation. However, that’s not all pitfalls Bartleby has under their belt…
Don’t Count on Bartleby Customer Service
Bartleby customer service can’t be called the fastest since there’s no live chat. You can reach out to it by phone or via email, but the answer won’t be immediate.
When looking through online reviews, it’s easy to notice that a question: “How to cancel Bartleby subscription?” is popular among the users. This is an issue I faced myself. Bartleby promises that you can end the subscription at any time through your account settings. Unwilling to pay a monthly fee, I decided to cancel my weekly trial a day before its end… but still was charged $29.95 for the next month. It took me several calls and emails to stop the subscription altogether, but as of now I still haven’t received a refund.
Is the Sample Database as Helpful as Other Bartleby Writing Resources?
Like any other online database, Bartleby Research assembles papers on a wide variety of topics. Although their number of samples is extremely low (just several thousand) compared to competitors (up to 1 million), the obvious drawback is that you can’t conveniently navigate even such a small library. The thing is, you can search Bartleby essays by either pre-set popular topics or by keywords. However, the found papers cannot be filtered by a number of pages, words, or by type because there is no single filter installed! This problem is frequently mentioned in online bartleby.com reviews when users emphasize that they had to spend a lot of time searching for a worthy work on the required topic.
Is Bartleby Legit?
Is bartleby.com safe? The short answer is “Yes.” This site belongs to a long-established publishing group, and by no means can it be considered a scam. The company complies with international privacy rules and uses securely encrypted communication protocols. However, like many Reddit users, I wouldn’t call it the most reliable source for education as many samples in the Bartleby database are apparently outdated, and it remains unclear how often new entries are added. Remarkably, the search for COVID-related samples turned 0 results. Also, you might experience issues canceling your Bartleby Research subscription. Drawing the line, I can tell that bartleby.com can be called a legal business which, despite its numerous issues, tries to look better than it actually is.

Summary
Mostly high samples’ quality on the one side and small size, pricey subscription, and inconvenient search on the other… The Bartleby sample database had all chances of becoming a brilliant educational resource, but its creators should have tried a little harder. The Internet can offer many better places for students to draw inspiration and get writing examples.
